MAGGIE?
MAGGIE? is about wondering which version of myself is the true version, after the growth and change I’ve gone through in my life. It questions who “ME?” really is. My childhood photos reflect who I once was, with boundless childlike wonder. However, they are also black and white, marking the time that has passed since I was that person. The colorful parts are images of myself and the things that I feel mark my identity today. The vibrancy of the hues act as metaphors for my own true colors. My name in the corner, with the M and E in black and white, and the rest in color represents how though I am not the person I was as a child, I wouldn’t be myself without her. With this piece, I was hoping to promote self-discovery in myself and in anyone who views the work.
This project was done with my friend Ashiq Kibria who took all of the photos of me today and my mother and family members who took the childhood photos. I took the photos of my shoes and colored and edited all of the photos.
